
Biography
An American jazz saxophonist, bandleader and actor, born in Logansport, Indiana, USA, on August 27, 1926, as Meredith Irwin Flory. During World War II, he was a pilot in the US Air Force, and after the war he obtained his university degree in philosophy from Indiana University. In the 1950s, he was active in music, and in the sixties he worked as an actor in cinema and television and a screenwriter. In the 1970s, he co-founded the Supersax band, and their debut album won a Grammy Award in 1972, while he continued his film and television appearances. He married Joan Barbara Fry (1952-2000), they had two children, and she remained with him until her death. Among his notable works are Maverick (1960-1962), Rawhide (1959) and The Nutty Professor (1963). He died in North Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA, on March 12, 2014, of heart problems.
